John has been a Millcreek resident since 1952. While attending McDowell High School, he played saxophone in the marching band and dance band, spent a short time on the wrestling team, and raced his ‘57 Chevy at a local drag strip.
At Gannon University, he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics, and spent much of his time in advanced ROTC activities, as a member of Raider Company, and Scabbard and Blade Honorary Military Fraternity. He received the Sons of the American Revolution Award, as well as the Association of the U.S. Army Award, then was designated a Distinguished Military Student upon graduation.
As an officer in the U.S. Army, John was an Infantry Training Officer at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and a Launcher Platoon Leader with an Air Defense Battery in South Korea.
After leaving the military John owned and operated a successful contracting business for over 30 years.
While an active church member, he served for 12 years on the governing board at the church, and headed the building and grounds committee. He has recently been honored to receive the Millcreek School District Hall of Flame Award, and the Citizen of the Year Award from McKean Hose Company.
For 42 years, John has been married to his college sweetheart, JoAnn Feidler Hornaman. They have two wonderful daughters, Dr. Pamela Tronetti, and Amelia Joy Marx, who have blessed them with three grandchildren and a grand-dog.
John’s two granddaughters are attending graduate school: Alexandra at the University of North Carolina, and Francesca at Brandeis University in Boston. John’s grandson Patrick, decided to follow after Gramps by joining the Army. He has done quite well for himself, moving up in rank quickly, attending jump school, and soon will be headed overseas.
John’s oldest daughter resides in Mims, Florida, and heads the Geriatrics Program at Parrish Medical Center. The younger daughter lives in Pittsburgh, where she runs her own business which incorporates nutritional counseling, personal training, and massage therapy. Naturally, both of them constantly advise their father on maintaining a healthy life style, encouraging him to eat right and get plenty of exercise.
John first ran for the office of State Representative in 2006 motivated by the unfair and infamous vote to raise the legislative pay by 16%, even as Erie County was losing thousands of manufacturing jobs. John is a fiscal conservative with pro-life and pro-second amendment values. While serving in Harrisburg, he has championed common-sense policies aimed at boosting the local economy while preparing Pennsylvania for the 21st Century. He has worked to promote the causes of alternative energy, the Kanzius Cancer Research, providing assistance to volunteer fire departments, and governmental reform like the Open Records Law.
“I am proud of what I’ve accomplished as your State Representative. I’m looking forward to continuing that service to the people of the Third Legislative District.“
