Volunteer fire dept

The future of our volunteer fire system is a top priority for John. He is always watching out for ways to keep funding flowing to all our departments, and ways to encourage volunteerism.

He works hard to keep our volunteer fire departments financially healthy, and to maintain adequate levels of man power. He co-sponsored HB 906 to provide dedicated grants to Fire and EMS Services. All of our First Responders in the Third District have benefited from this legislation.

John is the prime sponsor of HB250, which allows municipalities who have an Earned Income Tax to give local tax credits to volunteers; it also gives school districts the power to allow a tax credit against a volunteer’s residential property taxes. The bill passed unanimously in the House, but has not been addressed in the Senate.

Besides the funding which has come from HB906, John has pushed for other DCED grants:

CPAP Respiratory equipment for Millcreek Paramedic Service ambulances.

Driveway repairs and handicapped parking area for Franklin Township F. D.

Firefighting footwear for West Lake F.D.

Also pending but held up because of the tight State budget:

Hose replacement for McKean F.D.

Hydraulic Rescue Tool for Stancliffe Hose.

Rep. Hornaman was also happy to assist in the negotiations with the PA Fish and Boat Commission to find a mooring at Walnut Creek for Lake Shore F.D’s Aggressor Fire Boat.

Concerning the CPAP respiratory equipment, the Millcreek Paramedic Service and Fire Departments wrote:

Representative Hornaman,

“On behalf of Millcreek Paramedic Service and the Millcreek Township Fire Departments, we would like to express our gratitude for your support. Millcreek Paramedics was founded in order to provide the highest level of care to the residents of Millcreek Township and in surrounding municipalities. Your financial assistance in equipping all ambulances with CPAP respiratory equipment allows us to reaffirm this commitment…”
